We are living through a rapid phase of transition, a “change of era,” in which — while some are vying for the future of new technologies and others dedicate themselves to reflecting on the matter — most people are watching and waiting, observing from afar and merely hoping for the best. Leo XIV, Magnifica Humanitas

I count myself among those reflecting on the matter, not calmly, but frozen in the backseat of a car that Daddy’s driving way too fast. Daddy always drives, recklessly; he has not born costly life in his body.

He’s focused on getting there, not on getting there safely. There’s a mountain on one side, a steep drop on the other. It could be beautiful, but none of us see it. We're certainly not stopping for anyone who needs help at the side of the road.

AI is a powerful, potentially useful tool, but its out-of-touch creators think of it as a race they must win. We need to slow down enough to navigate safely. We need to stop and ask ourselves how it can serve the current, pressing needs of humanity.
